EVENTS

Whether you are an individual or an organization, you can enter an event and event details on our Events page to share how you are commemorating this historic day.

HISTORY OF OUR NETWORK

This network was originally named: Dalai Lama; 50 Years in Exile.
The date March 17, 2009 commemorated the historic occasion of His Holiness's 50th year in exile. On the weekend of March 14-15, 2009, spiritual centers, cultural groups and citizens all around the world joined in commemorating this historic occasion. This websites purpose was to make a unique offering to His Holiness and pledges of compassionate deeds and offerings of gratitude were sent to His Holiness shortly after March 17, 2009.

We established this network in consultation with a representative of the Office of Tibet. The local representative of His Holiness said this Network is a good idea and has agreed to pass all our pledges and expressions of gratitude on to His Holiness and send us confirmation when this has been done.

HIS HOLINESS, THE DALAI LAMA IN EXILE

On Mar 17, 1959, tumultuous events forced His Holiness the Dalai Lama to leave his homeland. With a small entourage, His Holiness began an epic 15 day journey that would bring him to the safety of Indian soil. Now, as we look back 50 years, the significance of that journey dawns. The footsteps which took His Holiness out of Tibet were also steps towards the rest of the world. Today, it is difficult to imagine a world community without the gift of His Holiness's presence. Walk in His Holiness's shoes on his epic 15 day journey by joining The Journey Group

GROUPS, BLOGS AND PHOTO GALLERY

Dalai Lama to meet Danish PM: Sources

Dharamsala, May 16 - His Holiness the Dalai Lama will meet the Prime Minister of Denmark during his two day visit to the country at the end of this month, Voice of Tibet radio service reported yesterday, citing a 'reliable' source who did not want to be named.

Lakha Rinpoche of Tibet Charity, which is one of the organizers of His Holiness’ visit, told the radio service that he received an email from a journalist indicating that the Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet the Tibetan leader at the former’s residence on May 29 but the exact time for the meeting is not known at the moment.

During his two day visit to the Scandinavian country, the 1989 Nobel peace laureate will give teachings on Nagarjuna's Commentary on Bodhicitta (jangchup semdrel) & Kamalashila's The Middling Stages of Meditation (gomrim barpa). His Holiness will also give a public talk on Peace Through Inner Peace.

Lakha Rinpoche will lead a long life prayer offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Tenshug) by the Tibetans residing in Denmark. His Holiness will also preside over a press conference and meet with members of the Danish parliamentary group for Tibet.

His Holiness will also visit Netherlands where he was invited to visit the Dutch parliament. China earlier warned Dutch MPs not to invite the Dalai Lama to visit parliament but Dutch MPs went ahead with the invitation despite the warning from China that the visit would harm relations between the two nations.

After Netherlands, His Holiness will visit Paris, France, where he is likely to receive the Paris citizen of honour. He will give a public talk on Ethics and Society

Dutch Prime Minister criticised for refusing to meet Dalai Lama

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) has criticised Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende's refusal to meet the Dalai Lama as 'a sign of little respect'. The Tibetan spiritual leader will visit the Netherlands next month. During his visit he will give a speech to senior business leaders and government officials.

The Dutch branch of the ICT points out that former Prime Minister Wim Kok did meet the Dalai Lama when he visited the Netherlands in 1999. Members of the ICT executive have been informed by the foreign ministry that Minister Verhagen will meet the Dalai Lama during a private meeting with other spiritual leaders.

China has reportedly put pressure on the Netherlands to prevent a meeting between Prime Minister Balkenende and the Dalai Lama. Parliament, on the other hand, has urged the government to give an official reception for the Tibetan spiritual leader. In parliament on Tuesday, MPs will ask the prime minister to explain why he refuses to meet the Dalai Lama.
